Who I am and how to reach me

I am Debbie Alves, and this is my personal medical blog and website. The website address is: https://asthmaodyssey.com.  I can be reached by registering your email and sending me a comment.

What personal data is collected and why

Registration

I require visitors to register before leaving comments or participating in discussions in order to reduce spam, the bane of our online existence otherwise.

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site, I collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user-agent string to help in spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/.  After approval of your comment, your profile picture or avatar is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Also I use the Clean Talk Anti-spam app (it’s made a HUGE difference in the amount of spam hitting the site, and I can’t recommend it more highly).

Cookies

Cookies and other tracking technologies are used to improve your browsing experience on the website, to analyze the website traffic, and to understand where visitors originate.  By using this website, you consent to the use of cookies and other tracking technologies.

Media

If you upload images to the website in your comment, you should remove any embedded location data (EXIF GPS). Failure to do so means that visitors to the website can download and extract that location data from images on the website. I am not responsible for any damages resulting from your failure to do so, or to take other security precautions.

Embedded content from other websites

Posts on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.).  Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if you visited that other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Who shares your data and how long I keep it

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely.  This is so I can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on the website, I collect the most minimal information possible –  your name, user name and email address.  All users can see, edit or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username, which is required to maintain the posts and/or discussions).  Website administrators, if there are any, can also see and edit that information.

What rights you have over your data

If you have registered your email to be contacted about updates to the blog or website, or left any comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data I hold about you, including any data you have provided to me. You can also request that I erase any personal data I hold about you.  This does not include any data I am obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Where I send your data

Visitor comments and their authors are checked through an automated spam-detection service.
